In collaboration with Geotec Engineering, BestBridges provided support for the design and engineering of a heavy-duty composite bridge for the City of Maaseik. One of the key requirements of this infrastructure project was an exceptionally high load-bearing capacity. The structure was therefore specifically designed to safely accommodate heavy traffic and service vehicles weighing up to 40 tonnes.
The newly designed composite bridge will replace the existing structure, ensuring the long-term durability and functionality of the infrastructure. Located at an important intersection, accessibility and safety are crucial for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorized traffic.
Composite bridges represent an advanced solution for modern infrastructure and are distinguished primarily by their exceptional service life, which can extend up to 100 years. Manufactured from fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP), these structures are inherently resistant to corrosion, moisture, and other forms of degradation.
This intrinsic material resilience significantly reduces maintenance requirements throughout the entire lifecycle of the bridge. The result is a robust and cost-effective infrastructure solution that represents a reliable long-term investment for both public and private applications.
Various types of wooden balustrades are available, made of tropical hardwood such as Azobé or Bilinga. These balustrades offer great architectural freedom, allowing them to be perfectly adapted to the bridge’s design. The balustrades are easily dismountable, ensuring easy long-term maintenance without affecting the integrity of the bridge.
