As part of a major climate adaptation and ecological restoration project in the Moergracht Valley in Boutersem, BestBridges delivered two bespoke hybrid pedestrian bridges combining steel and timber. The broader municipal initiative aims to restore the natural meandering course of the waterway and create a climate-resilient wetland that is better equipped to cope with both drought and flooding.

The bridges were carefully designed to blend harmoniously into this ecologically valuable environment while ensuring safe and comfortable accessibility for visitors. By combining the high durability and structural performance of steel with the natural and renewable qualities of timber, the bridges form a robust and aesthetically pleasing addition to the landscape.

These new connections allow visitors to experience the restored nature reserve and its biodiversity at close range, demonstrating how innovative infrastructure and thoughtful landscape management can successfully go hand in hand.

Balustrades

Various types of wooden balustrades are available, made of tropical hardwood such as Azobé or Bilinga. These balustrades offer great architectural freedom, allowing them to be perfectly adapted to the bridge’s design. The balustrades are easily dismountable, ensuring easy long-term maintenance without affecting the integrity of the bridge.
