Studio LST engaged BestBridges LAB to provide specialized design and engineering services for a bespoke modular composite platform in Pelt, Belgium.
The platform forms part of the new Agter de Heuf development and has been designed to enhance the public realm by creating an inclusive, accessible, and seamless pedestrian connection for both residents and visitors. By combining functionality, sustainability, and architectural quality, the infrastructure contributes to an attractive and future-proof public space.
The walking platform covers approximately 105 m² and consists of several highly durable composite modules. This modular approach enables precise installation while minimizing the impact on the sensitive natural environment.
The structure is further enhanced by a bespoke steel balustrade that combines safety with architectural elegance. Designed with universal accessibility as a guiding principle, the platform guarantees an inclusive, comfortable, and smooth user experience for everyone within the new development.
By providing early-stage feasibility studies, transparent cost estimates, and comprehensive technical specifications, BestBridges LAB ensured that the engineering office had access to a fully developed technical dossier. This specialized support equips the engineering team with all the necessary insights and technical details to efficiently advance the project from concept design through to execution.
Various types of wooden balustrades are available, made of tropical hardwood such as Azobé or Bilinga. These balustrades offer great architectural freedom, allowing them to be perfectly adapted to the bridge’s design. The balustrades are easily dismountable, ensuring easy long-term maintenance without affecting the integrity of the bridge.
