Commissioned by contractor Wulteputte and the City of Sint-Niklaas, BestBridges played a central role in the extensive redevelopment of Sportkringpark. For this green public space, BestBridges designed, manufactured, and delivered an extensive range of bespoke outdoor furniture, complemented by two durable timber boardwalks.
Every element was carefully developed to blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings, enhance the visitor experience, and meet the high standards expected of a contemporary public park.
To enhance both the functionality and spatial experience of the park, BestBridges designed a cohesive collection of contemporary and minimalist outdoor furniture. The project included the realization of 29 benches, 7 timber information points, 3 timber viewing platforms, and 5 picnic tables.
The elements were primarily manufactured from FSC-certified oak and complemented with refined steel accents. This combination creates a warm and natural appearance that ages beautifully and develops a distinctive character over time.
BestBridges specializes in high-quality bespoke solutions for public spaces and offers extensive flexibility in both design and execution. Dimensions, scale, material selections, and architectural expression can be fully tailored to the specific functional and aesthetic requirements of every client and environment. The result is a solution that perfectly reflects the identity and intended use of each public space.
In addition to the outdoor furniture, the project included two timber boardwalks – a short route and a longer route – ensuring smooth and comfortable circulation throughout the park.
To maximize service life in an outdoor environment, both the supporting structure and the decking were constructed from FSC-certified Azobé hardwood. With its Class 1 durability rating, Azobé is ideally suited for long-term outdoor applications. To further guarantee user safety in all weather conditions, the deck boards were equipped with integrated anti-slip strips, providing additional grip and a comfortable walking experience.
Various types of wooden balustrades are available, made of tropical hardwood such as Azobé or Bilinga. These balustrades offer great architectural freedom, allowing them to be perfectly adapted to the bridge’s design. The balustrades are easily dismountable, ensuring easy long-term maintenance without affecting the integrity of the bridge.
