BestBridges is a family-owned business specializing in the design and construction of pedestrian and bicycle bridges, walkways, and street furniture, as well as the renovation of existing bridges. We support government agencies, engineering firms, landscape architects, and contractors on projects in Belgium, Luxembourg, and France.
We combine design and engineering with practical knowledge of manufacturing, transportation, and on-site installation. As a result, we assess not only how a solution can be designed from a technical standpoint, but also how it can be implemented efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
From our independent vantage point, we work with steel, wood, composite, and hybrid structures. We do not focus on any single material, but rather on the solution that best suits the application, service life, architecture, feasibility, and available budget.
BestBridges oversees projects from the initial feasibility study and material selection through engineering, production, delivery, installation, and after-sales service. With BestBridges LAB , we also support clients and design teams with feasibility studies, cost estimates, technical optimizations, bidding documents, inspections, and renovation scenarios.
By combining parametric design and digitization with customization, we create solutions that are technically sound, aesthetically compelling, and practically feasible. In addition to functionality, we pay close attention to the architectural aesthetic and the vision that designers and clients wish to realize. In this way, our bridges and walkways contribute to sustainable mobility, attractive public spaces, and a high-quality experience of the surroundings.

Stefan Backeljauw is the founder of BestBridges. During his many years in international leadership roles on complex infrastructure projects, he and his wife founded the company as a family business, with a strong focus on service and customer support.
Drawing on her strong background as an experienced art director, Karolien oversees the company’s day-to-day operations. She ensures that every project strikes the perfect balance between sound engineering and high aesthetic standards, architectural value, and a strict focus on sustainability and circularity.
