For the Mahatma Gandhi neighborhood in Mechelen, BestBridges supplied and installed two wooden walkways, commissioned by the City of Mechelen and DCA Infra. The design is by the architecture and landscape firm OMGEVING. The walkways provide pedestrians with easy access through the neighborhood, and one of the two features an integrated bench. There, residents can sit for a while, chat, and take in the surroundings. A sleek handrail keeps everyone safe on the path while leaving the view unobstructed.

Warm Azobé hardwood that’s safe and comfortable to walk on for the entire neighborhood

The walkways are constructed from Azobé hardwood, a sturdy wood with a warm, natural color that blends well into a green residential neighborhood. The wood is FSC®-certified, meaning it comes from responsibly managed forests.

A walkway in a residential neighborhood is used by many different people every day. That’s why the decking planks feature a slip-resistant surface, ensuring they remain safe to walk on even in rain and freezing conditions. The sleek railing provides extra safety and complements the walkway’s design.

The bench is made of the same wood as the path. It blends in perfectly and allows the walkway to flow seamlessly.
