As part of a major climate adaptation and nature restoration project in the Moergracht Valley in Boutersem, BestBridges constructed two custom-designed hybrid pedestrian bridges made of steel and wood. The broader municipal project aims to restore the natural meandering of the watercourse and thereby create a climate-resilient wetland that is better able to withstand both drought and flooding.
The bridges were carefully designed to blend harmoniously into this ecologically valuable environment while ensuring smooth and safe access for visitors. By combining the high durability and structural performance of steel with the natural and renewable character of wood, the bridges form a robust and aesthetically pleasing addition to the landscape.
The new trails allow visitors to explore the redesigned nature area and its biodiversity up close, and demonstrate how innovative infrastructure and careful landscape management can go hand in hand.
