In collaboration with the Municipality of Aartselaar, BestBridges provided the expertise for the renovation of two heritage bridges in the historic Solhof Park. The existing wooden bridges were in a state of deteriorating condition and needed to be renovated to ensure safety and accessibility for park visitors well into the future.
By opting for hybrid wood-and-steel structures, the newly designed bridges not only blend seamlessly with the park’s natural and historic character, but also provide a robust and future-proof solution for this valuable heritage site.
To create a solution that respects the park’s heritage character while ensuring maximum durability, BestBridges designed a bridge concept featuring a robust steel support structure combined with a wooden bridge deck and wooden balustrades. The natural components of the bridges will be constructed from FSC®-certified Azobé wood, a wood species with a durability class.
This carefully considered hybrid approach ensures that the municipality of Aartselaar benefits from a low-maintenance and highly sustainable infrastructure solution that preserves the historic character of Solhof Park while also benefiting future generations.
